Parents Guide- Preparing for the new school year…

What are the things you, as a teacher, wish parents knew before sending their students to school this year? What routine do you suggest parents establish in the first week? I have a few ideas that I have listed below.

  • Checked books against booklist and labeled with student details.
  • Check uniforms still fit. -Check uniform for rips or tears and fix if necessary. Arrange for new uniforms where necessary or send student with an explanation note.
  • Re-establish the breakfast routine so that students arrive at school alert and energised for the day.
  • Pack a healthy school lunch. Unhealthy food not only is a negative habit for your child to get into but it also tempts other students.
  • Establish a study routine  and write it on a bulletin board or a calendar. Set rewards or consequences to encourage study.
  • Check student organiser nightly to ensure you are up to date with all homework and communication. And check school bag regularly for missing notes or homework.
  • Communicate any concerns, special requirements or specific information about your child to the teacher in person, however it is always important to make sure it is written somewhere such as school forms, student organiser or the like.

What advice or routine do you wish parents would consider?
